I knew they needed water and sun and were delicate, but I never thought I could keep a plant alive, propagate it, and fall in love with it. Plants and I were not exactly a match made in heaven, or so I thought.
In 2018 my husband, two boys, and I moved from Miami to Sebring in Central Florida. From a city full of lights, cars, and noises to a place in the middle of nowhere, where the noises came from animals around us.
My husband found his place at Vera Farm among sheep, mini donkeys, and plants right away. For me, the path was longer, I enjoyed the surroundings for reading, relaxing, and walking, but I always returned to the same corner and screen. My work includes being attached to a computer and a phone for more than eight hours daily. I loved it but was also searching for my own thing in this new place.
I began by buying some succulents for my garden, and I realized how gorgeous and easy they were to keep alive. The more I learned about them, the more I fell in love with them. One leaf, two leaves, and many leaves later, my garden grew, spread, and bloomed; my succulents survived the inclement Florida weather, my ignorance, two cats, and several chickens.
Viva Vera is about plants, purpose, passion, freedom, nature, and connection. Its main goal is to bring nature to everyone across the country, replace plastic gifts with nature-made gifts, and share plant benefits through the Back to Basics workshops.
